Beloved isn’t a word often used, in fact the only time I can remember seeing it is on the headstone of a grave. I wonder why is it that such a precious, meaningful word is used only after we’ve lost those dear to us?
The word beloved is found over 40 times in the Bible, and it often refers to us, the children of God.
After accepting Christ as our Savior, we are one of the children of God. He speaks to us over and over again throughout His word using this comforting and endearing word…
What Does Beloved Mean?
BELOV’ED, ppr. [be and loved, from love. Belove, as a verb, is not used.]
Loved; greatly loved; dear to the heart.
- As God’s children, we are greatly loved and dear to His heart.
- His love makes us His children. (1 John 3:1)
- His love is everlasting. (Jere. 31:3)
- We can not be separated from His love. (Rom. 8:35-39)
What Does God’s Word Say to His Beloved?
Deuteronomy 33:12 ~ And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.
Psalm 127:2 ~ It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
Romans 9:25 ~ As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
Ephesians 1:6 ~ To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Knowing that we are beloved of God, our Father, should make our hearts fill with singing. That He would hold us dear to His heart, though we fall short of His glory, is priceless. Precious gifts our Father offers us, adoption…beloved children of God.
Beloved. I need to remind myself daily that I am beloved of God my Father.
