Being Real: Stubborn + Salt & Light #35

Being stubborn is not always a bad thing, but if you’re unable to control when you apply it, then you’re sure to run into trouble. There have been times when I’ve met with extreme difficulty because I dug my heels in and refused to listen to reason. At times in my life my stubbornness has been a blessing and I overcame struggles because I was stubborn.

Stubbornness requires a delicate balance, one that takes attention and great judgement. You must learn to look at each situation with eyes wide open and with as little emotion as possible. In doing so you will be able to assess whether or not your stubbornness is due to a stronghold that you need to let go of or if you need to stand your ground.

There is a saying that I’ve come to love…

You have to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.

Being Real: Stubborn

This is a so true, that’s why it is imperative that we learn to look at things with eyes wide open. Many times in life we will find ourselves giving into things if we don’t use a bit of stubbornness to stand our ground.

Other times we must let go of a situation or thing that we desire to hold onto. It is in these times that we must be honest with ourselves and seek God’s direction if we’re honestly unsure what to do. Choosing to be stubborn and not relinquish control will only mean that we’ll face this struggle again and it could hurt some or all of our relationships.

When we grasp things tightly and refuse to even think about them with an open mind, then chances are our stubbornness is not in the right place. If God has placed a particular situation or thing on your heart and asked you to let go of it, then you must heed this call. Your stubbornness will not win over God, He will remove what He wants or He could allow you to go through trials and difficulties until you come to the place where you relinquish control. By heeding God’s call the first time to let go, we’re not only being obedient, but chances are we’ll save ourselves some heartache.

It is very important to be able to determine when to let go and when to stubbornly hold on. This lesson does not always come easy, but once we’ve learned how to make these determinations, we will find our way through the life God has planned for us much easier.

Our stubbornness must always be in submission to God and His will. If we choose to stand on our own against it, then we will surely fall. This is where we must ensure we’re focused, standing strong (and stubbornly when needed) for God’s ways and will for our lives. The world will try to trip us up and make us give into their ways, but we must stand strong and stubborn in the ways of the Lord.

If you have a stubborn streak, remember that it’s part of who God made you and you must determine to use it for His will!

I’m thrilled to be teaming up with some of my favorite girls online as a new co-host to a Monday link up here at Beautiful Ashes.

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” ~Matthew 5:13-16

  1. Misty, I love your list of bringing truth and light. I like to think that I try to bring truth and light through blogging. As a matter of fact, that is one reason I felt prompted to start a blog. I hope I can live up to it! It is a good thing to spread the word online. There are so many negatives, but there are also many, many good things. Thanks for being a light here.

    • Amen! Blogging is a great way to shine God’s love and be a light in this dark world! Blessings with your ministry Elizabeth!

  2. In all things we must submit to God. I am stubborn too. He knows this about me – so I often have to ask Him to redirect me if I’m putting my heels in.

Thanks for sharing (and for including this post in the #SHINEbloghop)!

    Wishing you a lovely evening.
    xoxo
