For several years I’ve desired to truly DIG into God’s word and study the Bible consistently. Yet, when my children were little the exhaustion was overwhelming and I was thankful for a quiet moment to pray on most days. Digging into God’s word with my favorite Bible study tools around me was just not possible. During those years I worked through several Women of Faith Bible Studies at my own pace and then found Good Morning Girls, which has become a ministry dear to my heart that I’m blessed to be part of now.
As a mom of children (of any age) it can seem so hard to find time to study the Bible. Yet, as with all of our tasks that we must complete, our Bible Study time must be part of our schedule. The “important things” like meals, laundry, bills, etc. are on our list of to dos each day…shouldn’t studying God’s word be #1 on this list? For a while I struggled with the thought of putting my time with God on a list with my daily tasks, because it was alongside things like cleaning the bathroom, taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, etc. God knows exactly what we have to do each day friends, He knows multitasking is our way of life, He realizes lists help us be productive and organized…He just wants to be part of our day. So, don’t fret like I did the act of putting Bible Study on your daily to do list, He wants to be part of your day and He made you to be focused on your home and family, so put time with Him there along with your important tasks each day.
It is important that we ensure that we make our Bible study a priority, and not view it as an extra time slot item. <– Encourage other moms with this truth!
Moms must be intentional to ensure their faith, family and homes are well cared for. We must continually look over our responsibilities to ensure we have the available time needed for our priorities. Bible study must b e one of a mom’s priorities because it is her faith that is often most visible to her children. We must be growing in the Lord so we can strive to point our children daily to Him. They need to know (and see) that our time with God is important to us so that it will become important to them as they grow up and as they become adults.
Over the next few weeks I’m going to be sharing Bible study tips, tools and other helps to encourage you to make Bible study a priority each and every day!
How do you stay on track with your personal Bible study?
This series comes at a great time as I’m back in the University and life is getting busier all the time! Surely there will be days when it’ll be hard to find the time to sit down and study the Bible – so I’m looking forward to all those tips and tools!
Misty,
Very practical advice! I’m a list person, so much so that before the days of electronic planners, I had a big stamp made with all the regular things like: prayer, Bible study, drink more water, exercise … and I would stamp it in my Day Planner everyday! LOL
Blessings and thanks for encouraging all those moms with little ones at home (and all of us, grandmas, too).
Donna
It is hard, and it shouldn’t be. I’ve been trying to take my quiet time when the girls go down for their naps in the afternoon and before I write for my blog. It has to come first. Looking forward to following for more tips. Glad to have found you through the SHINE Blog Hop!

Yes, it does have to come first, when we keep God as the priority He will ensure all other things come together properly. <3 Blessings Erin!
This is so true:
“It is important that we ensure that we make our Bible study a priority, and not view it as an extra time slot item.”
Thank you for the timely reminder.
Too often in my past that is how I viewed my Bible study time and I’m striving to ensure it is a priority now. Blessing Jennifer!
This is something I def need to work on… I got a study Bible from a friend and I rarely make time to read it. This was a great reminder.. thank you for sharing on the #SHINEblog hop!

Hi Misty, I’m visiting you from Essential Things Devotions Your title caught my eye because Bible study is definitely a priority for me, but I never thought of putting it on my to-do list. It’s a good idea. I guess when I don ‘t get other things done I can say, “Well, at least I did my Bible study for the day!”
Yes, if that is all get done for the day then we’ve accomplished the most important thing! Blessings! <3
