The Law Has Been Replaced

As the Good Morning Girls have been reading through the book of Leviticus, I’m amazed at all of the wonderful ways I’ve seen how God fulfilled in the New Testament things from the Old. It’s truly wonderful to see how God took the law of the Old Testament and replaced the requirements and processes through His Son.

The Law Has Been Replaced - By Misty Leask

The blood that was required with each and every sacrifice was replaced with the one time shedding of His precious Son’s blood when He died on the cross. The requirements that the children of Israel were bound to are no longer required of us. The sins of the whole world still require the shedding of blood, but the price has already been paid. People must simply believe in Jesus as God’s Son and accept the free gift of salvation. The only “sacrifice” required now is of our lives, giving them over to God and choosing to live daily for Him. The simplicity of our salvation should cause us to be amazingly grateful for Jesus’ immeasurable love for us.

From the beginning of time God has clothed His children. From Adam and Eve as they left the garden to the sons of Levi in the tabernacle and even us. As the children of God we are covered with His wings and He provides armor for us to use each and every day.

Psalm 91:4 – “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”

Ephesians 6:11-18 – “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

God provided a healing process in the law of the Old Testament as well. The priests were given specific instructions on how to handle disease. Through their obedience to the law, God healed. In the New Testament, Jesus came to heal the sick and those in need of a physician. While this not only speaks of the spiritual state of people, countless times we find Jesus healing people throughout His time on earth. God still provides healing today, and in His word, God tells us that it is through faith and prayer that He brings healing.

Mark 2:17 – “When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

James 5:14-15 – “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

  1. Interesting, love that quote from Ephesians! Reading your title brought to mind this passage…

“For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
    Matthew 5:18

  2. Yes, Jesus fulfilled the law, bigger and better in every way! When my oldest was 5 years old, Leviticus was her favorite book of the bible. “Oh look, Mama, isn’t this a good rule?” Even at 5 she saw the goodness of God in the Law! Thanks for linking up with me today, Misty!

  3. My husband and I are reading the bible in a year this year, and as we read through the book of laws I was overcome with how freeing it is to know that Christ paid it all. It makes me even more grateful for his sacrifice. Thank you for sharing!

    • That’s wonderful that y’all are reading the Bible together! It is so amazing to know that Christ paid it all and what a price it was that He paid, one that we can never repay! Blessings Kelsey!
