Last month my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. We didn’t have an elaborate celebration, fancy gifts or a romantic weekend getaway. Those are things that I used to want…no, need.

A few short years ago I dreamed of an amazing 10th anniversary getaway with my husband, a cruise or a trip to Hawaii. Yet, as time passed those things became unimportant…I grew up. 

Love no longer is a fairy tale. Love is ordinary days. Love is broken moments. Love is working alongside. Love is a blessing.

As I’ve been reading Song of Solomon this week with the Good Morning Girls, I realized that the love that I once longed for I now have.

My beloved is mine. My beloved holds me close. 

I can’t pinpoint when our love became the kind I dreamed of, but it is all because of God’s grace and I’m forever thankful for it.

Love is a journey. Just like the virtuous woman. It doesn’t happen over night.

Love grows. It takes dedication, pursuit and patience.

True love doesn’t just happen. It becomes. 

Through the passing of time, through the pursuit of your beloved and through patience gifted to you by God, love grows.

Much of my life I thought I would never have the loved that I longed for, the love that God speaks of in His word. The fact that I have been blessed with the depth of love that I have is yet another picture of beautiful ashes. God has the ability to take the places we’ve made a mess and turn them into beauty. It truly is a wonder to behold the work of God’s hands and know that it is because of His great love for us that He gifts us with beauty from ashes!

His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.
