While reading through the first few chapters of Matthew as part of the Good Morning Girls Bible Study these week, we read one of my favorite passages of scripture. Each time that I read Matthew 4, I find myself thinking over my life and how I’ve lived for Christ…I recall how I’ve responded when Jesus is calling…

Here we see that these men were working, they were busy with their livelihood and then we read that Jesus is calling them. Upon being asked to follow Jesus to become “fishers of men”, they dropped everything and followed Him. They didn’t know who Jesus was, nor did they have any idea what it meant to be a “fisher of men”, yet they left all they knew behind and did as Jesus bade them.

Throughout my life I’ve known that Jesus is calling me to be a strong woman of God, a better wife and a more compassionate mom. Yet, how have I responded to those callings? Did I answered those callings as I should have?

I know that I have grown as a daughter of The King, I’m a better wife than I was a few years ago and compassion is becoming more a part of my mothering than before, I have not been as immediate in my response to Jesus’ calling on my life as the disciples were many years ago.

At times I’ve been overwhelmed at the tasks at hand, other moments my plates have been overflowing due to my inability to say “No” and sometimes I’ve simply ignored the fact that Jesus is calling me.

The truth is that Jesus is calling me…and He is calling you.

Each of us are being asked to fulfill the callings that He is placing on our lives. The calling that Jesus is giving me may not be what He is giving you, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is what we’re going to do about this truth.

Will we respond and follow Him as His disciples did or will we sit around and wait for a another day? Will we lay out a fleece over and over again instead of taking steps forward in faith? Will we simply trust knowing that Jesus is calling and He knows exactly what He is doing?

Jesus is calling you. Today. Jesus is calling me. Today. May we learn to respond as Peter, Andrew, James and John did, stepping in behind Jesus immediately and following Him each step of the way.
