As a mother it is important to pray for our children, but I believe that it is equally important to take time to pray WITH our children. Our children not only need to know that we pray FOR them, about their futures and their current struggles, but they need to HEAR us pray and they each need to have the opportunity to PRAY alone with us. Having a daily prayer time is also a great way to strengthen your mother-son relationship.
Daily Prayer Time for Today
During our daily prayer time it is important that we remember any current struggles or difficulties our sons are facing. It tells them that we are listening and watching, that we are choosing to be present in their lives today. When we choose to pray with them about something we’ve noticed but they haven’t mentioned, those prayers can open doors to new conversations later! So, don’t miss out on the opportunity to pray about something you haven’t discussed yet.
It’s so important that we don’t pass up the every day stuff during daily prayer time alone with our sons. They need to know that God cares just as much about the “little” things in their lives as He does about the “big” things they’ll face throughout life.
Some of the every day things I pray about with my son are…
- His relationship with God
- His attitude
- His schoolwork
- His work ethic
- His friendships
Daily Prayer Time About Tomorrow
There are many unknowns in our children’s future so it may seem difficult to pray for their futures. Yet, taking the time to pray alone with our sons in regards to their futures will show them that we care and it will remind them that God holds their tomorrows in His hands.
We can’t know what our son’s tomorrows may bring, but we can pray for them to be prepared for them and that God will direct their lives now for their future. One important prayer that we must not forget is in regards to his future wife. She will become part of our families some day, so we need to pray for her now.
Some future prayers that I pray about with my son are…
- His calling from the Lord
- His future as a husband
- His future as a father
- His future wife
Daily prayer time is a great way to cultivate faith and strengthen communication within your mother-son relationship. Prayer time together is an amazing opportunity to allow God to speak to both of your hearts and grow you closer to Him and each other.
Do you take the time to pray alone with your son(s) each day? What are some things you pray about with and for them?
