Open Our Mouths: Preparing to Serve

Throughout our lives God may call us to serve in different capacities, various ministries and unique places. Yet, no matter where we are or how we are serving Him, we must be prepared.

In this series thus far we have looked at opening ourselves in varying ways in order to prepare ourselves to serve the Lord.

Today’s topic is often one the hardest steps for many in preparing to serve the Lord. It is when we take all God has placed on our hearts, all that we have learned from and of Him and we vocalize it. Taking the next step, we will begin opening our mouths to tell others of the goodness of God.

How do we begin opening our mouths to serve the Lord?

We must begin exactly where God has placed us today.

Whether we are at home, work, church, school or abroad.

Starting Small with Faithfulness….

I believe often times when we think of vocally sharing Christ with others, that there is a preconceived notion that we must stand on a platform and share God’s love to a room full of women in order to make a difference. While this is a wonderful opportunity, and is one that you or I may be given in the future, it is not likely where we are going to start.

Starting small is nothing shameful. It is a place to start and God’s word reminds us exactly how important it really is that we DO start small.

The book of Luke reminds us that “…there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” (Luke 15:10)

…Brings Blessings for Faithfulness

In Matthew, we find the parable of the talents given unto servants. The servants that used their talents wisely and gained more for their master were praised. “…thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things…” (Matt. 25:21)

The size or difficulty of the task given to us by the Lord does not matter, it is our faithfulness in serving Him that is required.

Share Your Life Story

In our minds we ofttimes wonder what we could possibly have to share with others that would point them to Christ. Our messy lives leave much to be desired and our mistakes are always looming over us. Yet, these are the very things that often are exactly what God desires to use, to reach those that He sends into our lives. People that He’s sent our way specifically. We may be the only person that has taken the time, the only one that can touch their heart, or the sole person that understands exactly what they’ve been through and where they’re at in life right now. Sharing our life story with those God brings along our way, is the perfect way to start small, by pointing each one of them to Christ.

Starting is the hardest step of anything new. What we must remember is that it only takes one person to change another’s life.

Are we willing to be the one to open our mouths and make a difference for Jesus in the world today?

  1. Wow, Misty! You have no idea how timely this post is in my life. God has given me a discipleship idea, and the next step is to present it to the head of the ministry, which seems a little fearful. But you remind me that the next step is “opening my mouth.” Thanks for encouraging me and reminding me that “Starting is the hardest step of anything new. What we must remember is that it only takes one person to change another’s life.”

    1. Yes! We must be willing to take that step and then we will be blessed to see the lives of those we touch change! I’m praying that God will give you strength and the exact words to speak! Blessings on you and your future ministry Karen!

  2. Sometimes serving right at home where there is no glory from those outside our home just doesn’t seem significant. Thanks for sharing this and encouraging us to serve right where God has placed us.

    1. Yes, we long to make a difference and being at home doesn’t always seem to be making much of a difference. Yet we can do so much within the walls of our homes. Blessings Judith!
