Ready to Serve? Wait.

Ensuring that we are prepared to serve the Lord in whatever capacity He calls us to is very important. Over the last few weeks we looked into opening ourselves up in order to serve the people or situations God brings our way.

Once we’ve taken the steps to ensure our hearts, eyes, ears and mouths are prepared for all God has waiting ahead, we then must wait. The waiting sometimes is the hardest step in the process. We must wait for the green light from the Lord.

Why Must We Wait to Serve the Lord?

Sometimes we get so excited about serving the Lord, that we can get ahead of Him. When we do that, it can mess up the plans His has for us. It is important that we wait so that we don’t miss out on His plan, while we’re busy making our own.

While we’re waiting we don’t always see the processes God is finishing up inside us, people He is prepping to come our way, events or places that we’ll be sent to, etc. It is the behind the scenes steps that God is working on while we’re waiting.

What to Do While We’re Waiting

During this time of waiting, we need to focus on growing our relationship with the Lord. The closer we draw to Him, the better prepared we will be when He says “go”.

A few things we should do while we’re waiting…

  • Daily devotions and prayer time is essential in keeping our heart and minds focused on serving the Lord.
  • Pray for our Pastor and our church family.
  • Touch base with missionaries in the field. Pray for them and their current ministry.

If we are truly prepared to serve the Lord, then our heart’s desire will be to wait on Him, for His perfect timing. May we be faithful in all things that come our way while we are waiting for God to give us the green light.

  1. In all, we must wait on the Lord…those that wait on the Lord will do exploit. Daniel 11:32. We should wait, until we get a go ahead from God in all area of our life. Good post and God bless.

    1. Yes 🙂 We must wait. That is key, otherwise we might miss a great opportunity the Lord has for us, or we might take a task the Lord designed for another. Blessings!

  2. I couldn’t agree more. We need to be still, and listen first. While there are a lot of opportunities to serve in our church , we decided to wait a little bit and pray for it ..if the way we want to serve on our church is the “way to go”… as we want to be consistent and would to do it with all our heart , mind and soul.

    1. Yes, praying is necessary in the waiting process. Ensuring that the direction we want to take is the one God has designed for us. May God bless you and your family as you wait and seek the Lord’s direction. Blessings!

  3. Love your series on serving. Again, hits the mark. Waiting is difficult. I have meditated on the story of Zachariah & Elizabeth in Luke 1 for how to live during a time of waiting. verse 6 gives us a pattern… “they were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly.” While we arent required to keep the Law for our justification, there is no substitute for obedience… and even more crucial when we’re tempted to question God in our seasons of waiting. Obeying declares that we believe God even when we can’t see what He’s doing. Thanks for the encouraging post!

    1. Oh yes, Zachariah and Elizabeth, what great examples of faith and waiting on the Lord. What a great testimony they are to us. Obedience is definitely a crucial part of serving the Lord, what we are called to do or not to do may not be what we expected, yet we are still called to serve the Lord. Thank you for stoppin by! Blessings Karen!

  4. This is SO true!! We are waiting on our adoption process (21+ months) and it has been difficult. But God MUST be preparing something in us (or our daughters) before they come home. Home. That’s a whole other story! But I believe it’s tying in to what His plans are that we had NO idea about!

    1. Yes! The background is always being made beautiful while we diligently wait on the Lord! Blessings on your family’s future! <3
