Continuing to Serve

Serving the Lord is something we’re called to do throughout our lives, though the places, methods and missions may change as time passes.

Serve the Lord By Caring for Our Families

We (women) often can lose focus on our number one mission, in pursuit of good things, but forgetting what God called us to first. God’s most important calling on women is to their families, their husbands first and then their children. Caring for our family is how we are to serve the Lord first, and they must be our first mission focus. We must keep them and their needs a priority, then we can begin to serve the Lord outside our family.

Serve in Your Community

There are so many opportunities for us to serve in our community, many which the entire family can participate in together.

While each community has different needs and ministries, some opportunities you might find are; food bank, clothing bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters, etc. Check with your town/city to see what places need volunteers, they’ll be blessed to have you as part of the team!

If you’d like to see some other missions that communities sometimes have, check out my “Community Missions” series at Marriage Motherhood and Missions here.

Serve Your Missionaries

Not everyone is called to the foreign mission field, but we should want to hear from them, visit with them and support them in anyway possible.

There are many ways to support them while they’re serving on the mission field, as well as some opportunities to serve them while they’re home on furlough.

I was blessed to share my thoughts on supporting our missionaries in my dear friend’s corner, so I hope you’ll stop by and check them out here.

Serve in Your Local Church

Most churches have quite a few ministry opportunities; from choir to nursery, to Sunday School teachers and Nursing Home ministries, etc. It is important to work within the body of believers God has placed us in, this also allows us to grow together in Him.

Yet, sometimes God calls us to start something new, a ministry our church doesn’t have yet. I’m confident that if God has directed us to start a new ministry within our church that He will place the same desire on our Pastor’s heart as well.

Where we serve the Lord isn’t important, it’s the act of serving where He has called us or placed us. Serving God and those He brings our way with a open, joyful life.

I’m praying that God prepares you for the missions He has in mind for you in the future and that you will be blessed in all that you do for His glory. mistysig

  1. Misty – you have hit the nail on the head. There are so many places for a person or family to serve that it is sometimes hard to make the choice.

We have made a decision this year to go as a family to Zambia to spend a week loving on some orphans there and sharing the gospel with them. In the meantime, plenty of work to do here at home.

    • What a wonderful trip that will be! Someday I hope to be able to make such a trip with my family, for now we’re serving in our community. Blessings on you and yours!
