No one walks into marriage knowing it all. It’s just not possible to prepare yourself for what lies ahead in your marriage because it’s unknown to you. You can’t prepare yourself for what you can’t see coming. So the truth is, that no matter how long you’ve been married, you don’t know it all. Whether you’ve been married 10 years, 25 or even 50, you can’t see beyond the moment you’re in right now.

While you may not be able to know it all, there is someone who does and He has provided all of the direction you need in various ways. God designed marriage and He has specific plans for marriage, but we often don’t look for His direction. Instead we try to figure things out along the way ourselves. This is where we take the wrong turn. The moment that we think we can handle our marriages alone we’ve lost the strength of a 3 strand cord.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 – “…if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
We must turn to God’s word first when we need wisdom for our marriage. Inside we’ll find not only His plan for marriage, but we’ll find direction and encouragement that will strengthen and encourage us in ways we can’t even understand. God’s word is powerful and He knew the difficulties that we would face in our marriages, so He ensured that His word would be full of exactly what we need. The choice is ours. Will we open God’s Word to receive the wisdom we need for our marriages?
Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
In the Bible we’re told that seeking the counsel of fellow Christians is one way to receive direction and wisdom. God knew that we would need support and help from others throughout our lives and especially when making difficult decisions. Marriage is the 2nd most important relationship we’ll ever be in, so we must ensure that the steps and choices we make line up with God’s Word and His will.
Proverbs 19:20 – “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.”
After seeking direction through God’s word and through the counsel of other Christians, we then need to come boldly to the throne of grace. We must bow our knees in prayer before the Lord. He always hears the prayers of His children and gives wisdom to those who ask for it and seek Him.
James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
Sometimes the answers we’re in need of don’t come quickly. At times we may think that God isn’t hearing us or He’s choosing not to answer our prayers. We must never forget that God’s answers aren’t always yes or no. Wait is a answer from God that I’ve often been given throughout my marriage. That answer is the truly the hardest one to receive, but through waiting on the Lord I have seen miracles happen not only in my marriage, but more importantly in me.
Marriage truly is a wonderful gift from God and the more we lean on Him throughout each day of our marriage, the more wonderful it will become to us! No matter what struggles you may be facing today or how hopeless your marriage may seem, wisdom for the next step can be yours. God promises it to you over and over again in His word. During the hardest times of my marriage the song below got me through some of my hardest days. I would play it over and over again with tears streaming down my face while I was waiting for an answer from the Lord. I pray it is an encouragement to you as it was to me.
I’m excited to share the opportunity you have to attend a wives conference this year! It won’t cost you anytime away from your home, your family or your job. You can attend whenever and wherever is best for you for the next year! For me the best part is that I can go in my pajamas!
Jolene Engle from Christian Wife University is hosting an online wives conference!
The conference has 11 speakers and 14 sessions covering topics like; praying for your husband, dealing with pornography in your home, nurturing your marriage through storms and much more!
So often we worry about taking care of our kids and providing for them while our marriages need to be taken care of and provided for even more so! If our marriages are struggling or just in need of a jumpstart, we must take the steps necessary to gain wisdom we need to care for our marriage. Otherwise our children could be caught in the midst of marital struggles and that is something we must strive to avoid putting them through as their parents.
The Wisdom for Wives marriage conference is just what our marriages need. We need to be taught and encouraged in our marriages God’s way, by listening to the wisdom of fellow Christian women!
Below you’ll find a video from Jolene and her husband, where she shares her heart for this conference. If you’re wondering if this conference is for you, take the time to hear her heart for not only the conference itself, but for marriages in general! As I was listening the quote below caught my attention, it is so true and it speaks of what I feel in my marriage many times. So, I KNOW this conference is for me!
