At some point in our lives, we are going to feel like we don’t belong. Whether it be in our own family, with our friends, or our church home, the feeling of not fitting in is sure to come our way. During these times we must strive to remember that our feelings are not full of truth, we must not give into sadness and/or loneliness.
It is at these times in our lives that we must remind ourselves that it doesn’t really matter that we don’t fit in here on earth, because we’ve been adopted by THE King of Kings. This world is not our home, and one day soon our King is going to call us home and we’ll spend eternity with Him in heaven.
How precious that word truly is, adopted. Being adopted by God means we were selected to be part of His family, He chose us. What a beautiful picture of His love for us.
What Does Adoption Mean?
ADOP’TION, n. [L. adoptio.]
1. The act of adopting, or the state of being adopted; the taking and treating of a stranger as one’s own child.
2. The receiving as one’s own, what is new or not natural.
3. God’s taking the sinful children of men into his favor and protection.
So, in accordance with the definition of adoption…
- Before we accepted God’s offer to join His family, we were strangers to Him.
- Once we received His free gift of Salvation, He took us in as His own.
- Though we weren’t His children to begin with, our acceptance of salvation brought us into His family.
- Being adopted by God allows us to draw near unto Him, and that we are loved and protected by Him.
God’s Word Reminds Us That We’re Adopted By Him…
Romans 8:15 – For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Ephesians 1:5 – Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
1 John 3:1 – Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
There truly is no more amazing action than being adopted into God’s family. Adopted into an everlasting family though I was a sinner, this never ceases to amaze me. What an awesome God we serve. His mercy, grace and forgiveness surpass our understanding.
Adopted. I love being adopted by God my Father, the King of Kings.
Misty- thank you for the reminder about adoption and the truth which is so evident by this action. Sometimes I forget about the intentional nature of this truth, loosing sight of what eternity holds.
Yes, sometimes we get lost in the cloudy mess we live in from day to day. Yet, the promises of God stay the same yesterday, today and forever! 🙂 Blessings Shannon!
Great post, Misty, and it spoke to my heart today. Thanks.
(((Hugs))) Judith! <3
Love this. Isn’t it amazing that He loves us this much???
It really is! 🙂 How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure…
I am so thankful that I am His. 🙂
So glad you linked up at Thought-Provoking Thursday!
As an adoptive parent, I can tell you that the depths of love I have for my “chosen children” versus those given to me through the gift of biology are just as binding and valuable to me! I love the way that God wove adoption into His story for those of us who call him King!
Amen! What a truly amazing thing love is! Blood is not required to love for love is of God! 🙂 Blessings be to you and yours!
… ALWAYS need the reminder of this Truth. Thank you.
I agree! I need it all the time too! Blessings!

Oh what a wonderful song to teach kids! I will have to check it out on You Tube! <3
