You Are Gifted

Each one of us are gifted. God chose specific gifts for you and me, and though my gifts might be different than yours, they are no more or less important than yours. Sometimes we get so caught up looking at the gifts that someone else has, that we forget that we are gifted as well. At times we might even stop recognizing the gifts God blessed us with if we become jealous or envious of the gifts of others.

We Are Gifted Differently

At times that we may feel like we aren’t gifted or we don’t have the gifts we would like to have we need to look to God. His Word tells us that we are all gifted differently, but of the same Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:4 says, Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

Romans 12:6 says, Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we all had the same gifts? What wouldn’t we be able to accomplish if we all were ministry leaders and there were no missionaries? How could we bring people into the family of God if we were all focused on the people already there?

How Do We Use Our Gifts?

Thankfully we don’t have to wonder what to do with the gifts God has given us. We can go to the Lord in prayer seeking direction any time and He promises that His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. (Ps. 119:105)

1 Cor. 14:12 says,  Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

1 Pet. 4:10 says, As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

According to these verses we are to use the gifts that God has given us to minister to fellow believers and to edify the church. We need to ensure that when we are serving the Lord that we are not calling attention to ourselves or all that we do. Our gifts are to be used to uplift the Lord and those He calls us to minister to and reach for Him.

Why Do We Need to Be Gifted?

God didn’t place us on the earth without a mission or a reason to live. He doesn’t expect us to live mundane lives without purpose. God gave us gifts that enable us to make a difference in the world, in people’s lives, for Him! We must be diligent in using the gifts God gave us for His glory.

Col. 3:23-24 says, …and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Whatever gift that God has given us, it is up to us to use it to glorify Him. We need to ensure that when we’re using our gifts that we’re doing things as unto Him, for Him alone. While we’re using these gifts we must keep in mind that we are serving the Lord.

Sometimes different gifts show up at different times in our lives. In my past I’ve been a choir director, an Awana leader, a church pianist and a Children’s Church leader even. Currently I’m not using any of those gifts in my life, right now God has me writing. That is what He has called me to do at this time. I don’t know how long this will be the gift He wants me to use, but I will for as long as He wills.

Don’t doubt that God has gifted you, His Word says that He has and His Word is truth. If you’re unsure what your gift is, then begin by seeking the Lord and His Word. He will reveal it in His time and allow you the opportunities to use it to serve Him.

Remember you are adopted, beloved, complete, His daughter, enough, forgiven and gifted!

  1. This is a beautiful post Misty! Thanks. I have had many times that I felt inadequate. I recently had to learn to not just trust God but also His gifting and calling :-). Still working on it!

    • Amen! It is a work in progress that is SO true! God knows what He is doing, we just have to be willing, trust Him and move forward. Saying it is always easier than doing it though 😉 Blessings!
