Have you ever thought about what the word “goodness” means in Galatians 5:22?
As a Mom I often find myself telling my children to “just be good“, but I didn’t really think about the word I was using. Have you taken the time to really think about what you’re asking? In studying this fruit, I believe we are using the incorrect word if we say this. We should not use “good”, but rather “behave”.
Take a look at what I discovered and share with me your thoughts in the comments.
What is the Definition of Goodness?
Webster defines it as “kindness, benevolence; benignity of heart; but more generally acts of kindness; charity”
So in order to show forth this particular fruit, we must do something. Through goodness we as Christians are called to action, as we are through scripture.
Example of Goodness
When I think of goodness, a picture comes to my mind. Someone who is on the lookout for ways to touch someone’s heart. They’re looking to see what needs to be done and/or how they could bring a smile to their face.
Being good is definitely something I want to be known for. I don’t want to be looking out for me, I desire to touch other people’s lives and make a difference for Christ.
How Can We Exhibit Goodness in Our Homes?
1. Look for ways to help your husband.
~ Mow the grass, wash his car, etc.
2. Help your kids clean their room.
~ Yes, it’s their responsibility, but the action is kindness and it will be great bonding time.
3. Cook your family’s favorite meals.
~ They’ll love you for it.
4. Don’t respond in anger, choose to be kind and loving.
~ This will do more for you than them. It will cultivate self control, goodness, and love in your heart.
Just make sure you don’t allow bitterness to grow, pray as you respond kindly.
