Gentleness is the next Fruit of the Spirit we find in Galatians 5.
What exactly is gentleness?
Gentleness is the softness of manners, mildness of temper; sweetness of disposition (mindset).
Gentleness is to be in essence a part of everything we are.
Our words, our spirit and our mindset.
Our Greatest Gentleness Example
Jesus is our greatest example of all that we should be, and we should compare ourselves only to Him. For it is Jesus we want to imitate; in words, spirit, mindset and action.
Jesus’ Gentleness
Jesus’ words to Martha were spoken gently, but truthfully. (Luke 10:41-42)
Jesus’ spirit was gentle in the midst of betrayal. When they came to arrest Jesus, Peter drew His sword, but Jesus told him to put it away. (Matt. 26:52)
Jesus’ mindset was on His Father’s will always. When His earthly parents found Him in the temple, He was listening and answering questions. The very Son of God was hearing men and answering them. (Luke 2:46-47) In the garden just before His betrayal, His soul was sorrowful, but His mindset was still on His Father’s will. (Matt. 26:38-39)
How Can We Exhibit Gentleness in Our Homes?
1. We must choose to be like Christ.
Paul reminds us that Christ was full of gentleness in 1 Corinthians 10:1
2. Speak with kind words, using a soft tone.
Our tone as the Mom, sets the spirit for our homes. We must ensure it sings of gentleness.
3. Our mindset and temper go hand in hand.
We must set our mind on things above, for only then can our spirit be truly peaceful.
4. We must not allow our buttons to be pushed.
Kids argue, whine and prove difficult. We must exhibit self control in order for our spirits, words, mindset and actions to remain gentle.
