Why is it that we are so unwilling to really know people? Why do we choose to keep them an arm’s length away? Do we really think that our life is less messy than theirs or vice versa? Are we afraid to open up to others because they might judge us and our lives?
We are so worried about what others think of us and our “messy” lives that we miss so many opportunities to touch someone and possibly change their life. Someone that needs us. More than we can even imagine.
It is in the being real, opening up and sharing our lives with others that we are able to make a difference in this world. If we aren’t willing to do this, then we will not be a part of people’s lives changing.
If we want to see the world change, then we must be willing to come out of our “shells” and step into the light. No matter what the light reveals. The scars, the broken heart, the pain; we all bare marks that our choices have left on us and our lives.
The question is what are we going to do after these choices? Are we going to just go through life as if they didn’t happen? Or will we use what we’ve walked through to encourage or help someone else who is facing the same difficulties we have in the past? Will we sit back and watch the world go by and pretend that we aren’t needed?
For far too long I’ve sat back, ignored and “forgotten” what I’ve been through in life and not used it to help anyone. That was wrong.
All the things we go through in life shapes who we are today and who we will be tomorrow. These same things are often faced by others who God could use us to reach. He could use us if we would be willing to be real and open about who we are, the choices we’ve made and the results of those choices.
Hiding will not help us to heal nor will it help others make the right choice. Instead we end up with more broken and hurting people in this world. People who simply needed someone to come along side them, but no one ever came.
Those same people often end up further down the wrong road than they’d ever have imagined, but they were so lost and alone that they didn’t have the strength to go back the way they’d come. Some of them never come home. They just can’t deal with the pain anymore, they can’t see any way out, they have no reason to go on; so they leave this world behind.
How can we sit at home and remember the pain that others are feeling right now, and not do anything about it?
Will you join me in reaching out to those God brings our way? To stop and REALLY listen to them, to be REAL with them and not HIDE in your shell? To share that they are wanted by the most amazing Father and Friend they could ever hope for?
Open up your heart to them and be willing to share your ugly past to encourage them into a brighter future. A future for them that God can use you to be a part of! How amazing that could be!
