You Are Molded

Have you ever thought of yourself as being molded? Picture a potter with a handful of clay. He begins with something so unlovely, something most people wouldn’t even notice…a lump of dirt from the ground. Yet, the potter sees what it CAN become…what it WILL become when he molds it. These things are true of us, just as they are of the lump of clay.

Molded From the Beginning

Mankind began by being molded. It started with Adam and it continues still today. God begins to mold each one of us before we’re even born into the world, by His hands our lives begin.

Genesis 2:7 says, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Job 10:8-9 states, “Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me. Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay…”

We are created by the very hands of God and He chose to form us from the very dust of the ground, just as the potter does his creation. What a beginning we have as mankind!

Molding is the Work of God’s Hands

We are part of God’s work, His hands created the entire world and that includes us. Just as anyone who creates something desires it to be better, God molding us is the work of His hands. He wants to make us more like Him, after all He created us to be in His image, but sin separated us… Yet, His unconditional, unfailing love prods Him on. We are a continual work in progress, God is always molding us. It’s part of His work.

Isaiah 64:8 tells us, “But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”

Being Molded Isn’t Easy

Sometimes we pray and ask God to change us and we really don’t think about what comes along with it. When we ask the Lord to change something in us, that means we know that something needs to be removed or changed. This is where the molding process can become painful. Often we don’t want to deal with the pain, so we avoid it and don’t allow God to mold us because “it’s too painful”.

When we don’t allow God to continue the molding process, we miss out on steps that He needs to make in order for us to be the beautiful masterpiece He desires us to be. There is beauty to be found after the pain and blessings await those that continually seek and serve the Lord, this means we must allow Him to continue to mold us…even though it isn’t easy.

Molding Takes a Lifetime

We are the creation of a perfect God and yet, we are imperfect people. We are stubborn, difficult, disobedient, and wandering “disciples” at times throughout our lives and so our molding takes a lifetime. God won’t ever be finished with us while we’re here on this earth. As long we allow Him, we will continually be molded, shaped, and broken over and over again. God’s desire is for us to become more like Him…allowing God to mold us is how it happens.
