You Are {to be} Zealous

Zealous isn’t a word that is used very much anymore. Do you know what it means? I love the definition of this word and am looking forward to focusing on living it out in my Christian life.

Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines zealous as; Warmly engaged or ardent in the pursuit of an object.

You Are {to be} Zealous

Pursuit. That word should require us to stop and think. What am I in pursuit of?

Engaged. Another action word that necessitates us thinking about our lives. What are we engaged in doing?

Actions speak louder than words.

That’s a say that I heard as a child and one that I speak to my children. I love to listen to my loved ones speak, but there really is no word that could be spoken that reveals what an action can. You can say the words, “I’m sorry”, but unless you change your actions, they’re merely empty words. You can speak of the love you have for someone, but unless you show them by your actions that your love is true, the words mean nothing.

What do your actions say about you? Are you merely speaking words and not living the very life God’s designed just for you?

As Christians we need to be zealous in our pursuit of God, His will and the tasks He calls us to. Living our lives yielded to God and zealous in pursuit of Him are key to a Christians continued growth.

So, how do we live as a zealous Christian? How do we ensure we’re actively engaged in the pursuit of God?

  • His will must be our will.

We must give up the things that are our own if God’s will directs us a different way.

  • Our desire must be to spend time with God and grow to be more like Him.

The things of this world must grow strangely dim and our hearts yearn for Him.

  • Prayer must be a key component of our days.

Talking to our Heavenly Father daily is key to pursuing Him.

  • Our heart and our ears must be ready to hear.

A soft heart and listening ears are key to receiving direction during our pursuit of God.

  • Praise and thanksgiving must be our life’s song.

Our lives must sing forth praise and thanksgiving for all God is, all He has done and will continue to do through us.

Living as a zealous Christian is a never ending task. We are called to constant action, pursuing God with every breath we breathe and every move we make. In Him alone will we find perfect direction and satisfaction. He is all we need for today, tomorrow and always. As Christians may we strive to live in zealous pursuit of God.
