Being Real: Homeschooling + Salt & Light #39

I hadn’t always planned to be homeschooling my kids. I wanted to have a career and have my kids enrolled in a small private school. I’m very thankful that God changed my heart and that we’re now headed into our 5th year of homeschooling.

Homeschooling has been great for our family for many reasons and I’m excited to share them with you today!

Being Real: Homeschooling

  • My husband is a self-employed fisherman with an unpredictable schedule and having the flexibility to take days off according to his schedule is a tremendous blessing.
  • Schooling year round allows us to take our breaks at different times of the year. Currently we’re schooling by the quarter and taking a month off at a time.
  • I’ve been able to cater my children’s lessons to strengthen their weaknesses and let them learn about subjects of their choice. This has proven invaluable in keeping my kids interested in school and on track for their grade level.
  • When dealing with a family member’s serious illness, school was merely placed on the back burner and we focused on spending time with them. It was a blessing not to worry about catching up or making up classes and homework.
  • School starts when we’re ready. We don’t have to be early risers or run to the car to be to school on time.

The different homeschooling methods, curriculum and schedules is amazing. No matter what needs you or your children have, there is a curriculum and method perfect for you!

If you’re just getting started or are interested in homeschooling, take a few minutes to check out a few of my favorite homeschool blogs and website below. They are full of great information, encouragement and resources for your homeschooling journey!

Year Round Homeschooling

I’m thrilled to be teaming up with some of my favorite girls online as a new co-host to a Monday link up here at Beautiful Ashes.

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” ~Matthew 5:13-16

More specifically, how are we as blogging mommies, wives, and women, being salt and light towards others online?

Here is your chance to generously sprinkle some salt and shine a light: a link up where you share a post that you enjoyed recently from someone else’s blog or website.

  1. Thanks so much, Misty, for featuring my post. I truly appreciate your encouragement. And I just remembered that you are in Maine. We have been looking at different Maine towns to visit in the next year. Ogunquit keeps coming up. As well as Camden and Bar Harbor. What are your suggestions and where are you? Another question — I LOVE summer and when we think of relocating I shudder to think of winter’s worse than New York’s. How do you find the winters where you are? THANKS for your time. Blessings on your blog and family. xxoo

    • Bar Harbor is beautiful, but Acadia is in my opinion a must see in Maine. I’m in the Midcoast region in the city of Bath. Winter is pretty cold here, but I love ice skating so that helps me enjoy it a bit more. There is nothing like the heat of a fireplace or woodstove either. 🙂 If you make it up here be sure to let me know ok? Blessing Sheila! xoxox

  2. Thank you for another link-up, Misty. I was so blessed to share #46 as it touched me deeply today. Homeschooling is such a wonderful part of our lives, as well. If you ever need anything that I might be able to help with, please feel free to contact me and I will see what I can do. I’ve been homeschooling for many years, and I love helping others when I am able.

  3. I have so much respect for moms who homeschool.. I feel like my kids would NEVER listen to me if I was their ‘teacher’ 😉

Thanks for joining in on the fun at this weeks #SHINEbloghop! You posted some great stuff! 😉

    • Well, my kids don’t always listen, but we’re enjoying the homeschool journey as we learn 🙂 Blessings Lauren!
