It’s easy to say that I love someone, but showing love is sometimes harder. Whether it be that I just don’t know how or that my loved ones see love differently than I do, it can require extra effort to show love for my family.
I don’t want my verbal, “I love you”, to be just a spoken phrase, I want my family to know I love them because they see it in my actions.
Throughout this final week of the “Making Your Home a Haven” challenge, I’m going to be praying for love to be evident in myself, my family and my home.
Cultivating Love in Myself
Love is the greatest gift I can give my family and friends. I desire for them to know without a doubt that I truly love each of them. The following are ways that I am going to strive to cultivate love for my family and friends.
- Create a list of things I love about my family members and friends and add to it each day.
- Memorize 1 Corinthians 13:1-8
- Leave love notes for my family members and friends to find
- Do something uniquely special for each of my family members and friends
- Speak lovingly throughout my days
Cultivating Love in My Family
It’s easy to get caught up in our own things and only think about ourselves. This week I’m going to encourage my family to look to show love to others in a few different ways…
- At breakfast discuss ways that we can show each other love throughout the day
- At dinner time have each family member share one time from the day that they felt loved by another family member
- Have everyone write a page of things that they love about each family member
- Make time for a family night this week – do something everyone loves to do together
- Memorize 1 Corinthians 13:13 together
Cultivating Love in My Home
My home needs to be a place where everyone knows that they are loved and the atmosphere in my home needs to breathe love. These are the ways that I am going to attend to my home to ensure love abounds…
- Make a special dish for each family member this week
- Ensure each family member is greeted as they enter the home and kissed as they leave
- Encourage everyone to stop and listen fully when being spoken to by someone else
- Let everyone know that they are welcome in my home and ensure they feel that when they are here
- Invite someone over for dinner this week
Love truly is the greatest gift that we can give someone. I want my family to show love to each other and anyone else they meet in life as well. In order for them to show love to people outside our home, they must learn how to show it inside our home. I’m excited to being cultivating, showing and teaching how love is shown to others this week!
I made a printable to use in my home this week, to help me memorize I Corinthians 13:1-8 and I made one to help my family memorize 1 Corinthians 13:13. I’ve included them in the links below as free printables for your home should you like to use it.
