You Are United

There are many times when we feel like we’re walking the roads of life alone. Like it’s just us against the world. While throughout my life I have had times I felt this way, I know that I’m not really alone. Christ’s death on the cross ensured that we would never be alone…for through and in Christ we are united with Him!

Unity is what binds people together, this is how they become one. It is God’s design for us to be united with Him and His Son, Jesus.

John 17:21-23, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”

Jesus’ prayer to His Father reveals His deep love for us. He desires for us to have the same relationship that He has with God.

Jesus says here that one of the reasons we are united in Him is so that the world would believe that God the Father sent Him. Our unity in Christ is to be a witness to the very truth of Jesus Christ!

We also see here that another reason we are united in Christ is so that God’s love for mankind would be evident in and through us and our lives. What do our lives speak right now to those looking at us?

It is truly amazing that in verse 23 Jesus compares God’s love for us with His love for Jesus Himself. How truly wonderful is God’s love for sinners…like you and me.

Think with me just for a moment of what it truly means to be united in Christ…

• You are never alone
• His strength is perfect in you
• His love can be shared by you
• His peace is in you
• His grace can be shared by you
• His patience is in you

All the things that we feel we can not do alone are possible each and every day because we are united in Christ! All that He is, is within us because He is in us and we in Him!

Being united in Christ also unites us with God (verse 21). The Bible talks about having a three strand cord and how it isn’t easily broken. With Jesus, God and us put together we are a three strand cord, this strength is powerful. Yet, it is a strength that requires maintenance, growth and dedication. Nothing can separate us from God, but if we are not growing in Him, then our part of the cord will be weakened because we are not drawing closer to the Lord.

Unity in Christ requires our minds, hearts and souls to be focused on all that God is, has done and continues to do, in, through and around us. Unity requires drawing close to that which you desire to be united to. As children of God we need to be working daily on strengthening our unity in Christ, drawing closer to Him.

Each day we begin with God and His word, every prayer we pray, each song of praise we sing to Him, all these things strengthen our unity in Him. May we always remember to be thankful for all that we are in Christ, for in Him we are adopted, beloved, complete, His daughter, enough, forgiven, gifted, held, imperfect, justified, kept, loved, molded, new, owned, precious, quieted, redeemed, saved, transformed, united
