Most of us don’t like the thought of someone owning us…being a servant or slave is not a position sought after. As Christians though this is what we are…
We Are Owned by God
In order to own something you first must purchase something. God chose to pay for us…we are bought by God and as with any purchase it came with a price.
1 Corinthians 7:23a, “Ye are bought with a price…”
Due to our sin, Jesus’ blood was the price for God to purchase us. Sin can not be in God’s presence and the perfect blood of Christ alone covers sin.
Hebrews 9:22, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Ephesians 2:13, “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”
We must remember that it was God’s love for us that brought Jesus to the cross of Calvary.
Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Owned…Now What?
Being purchased by God, we are now to be servants of God. We owe our lives to Christ because without Him we would be nothing…lost and without hope of a future in heaven with Him.
Throughout God’s word we are told what our lives as Christians are supposed to look like, what we are supposed to seek and what we are supposed to do. It is our responsibility as servants of the Lord to fulfill the callings He has placed on our lives.
Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Colossians 3:23, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Romans 14:7-9, “For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.”
Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”
In the World Not of It
As Christians there is a delicate balance that must be found as we live in this world. We must strive to keep ourselves set apart, but we must ensure that we are not neglecting sharing God’s gift of salvation with people in the world.
Hebrews 13:5, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Galatians 1:10, “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”
Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Matthew 6:24, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Price, Love and Sacrifice
The price to purchase mankind was to our human minds much too high, but God’s love is so deep and strong that He chose to pay the price…His Son the sacrifice that you and I should have eternal life.
We are owned…bought with a price. The servants of Almighty God whose gifts of forgiveness, salvation, love, mercy and grace far outweigh the struggles that we face on earth.
James 1:2-4, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
1 Corinthians 10:13, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
We must daily choose to keep our eyes on the Lord in order to fulfill His calling on our lives and faithfully serve the One to whom we owe our very lives.
Remember you are adopted, beloved, complete, His daughter, enough, forgiven, gifted, held, justified, kept, loved, molded and new!
