Being Real: Blessed

The truth of life is that no matter who we are, what we’ve been through or what we don’t have, we are blessed. We come into the world with nothing and we leave with nothing, all that we have throughout lives are gifts…blessings to us from God above.

The question we must ask ourselves is do we know in our hearts and believe that we are blessed?

In today’s world, we have become a people of entitlement. We believe we are owed something, things that we have not earned or are not due to us. We just want it all.

God’s word tells us that…

  • The gifts we have have come from above.

James 1:17 states, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

  • God blesses those that trust and fear Him.

Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”

Psalm 115:13 tells us, “He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.”

  • God gives gifts to those who ask Him. (remember we must ask for things in accordance with His will).

Matthew 7:11 states, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

  • God will send showers of blessing in our season.

Ezekial 34:26 says, “And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.”

  • God’s blessings bring no sorrow.

Proverbs 10:22 tells us, “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”

One way we can daily remember how blessed we are is to learn to be content. God supplies all of our needs and few of us lack anything we might even want. We must focus each day on the blessings we have and this action will help bring about a state and attitude of contentment.

Over the last few years I’ve worked on counting my gifts, though it isn’t a daily action (as I desire it to be), I do love counting and am striving to make it a part of each day. I love Ann Voskamp’s devotional and am working through it for the second time.

Whether you choose to daily count the gifts God sends you or simply thank Him in prayer, this is the thankfulness He desires from those He loves and blesses.

May no blessing coming our way that we fail to lift our voice in thanks to the sender, God above!

    • Yes, knowing that we are blessed and believing it are very different. I find that digging into God’s word at the moments that I feel down or when I don’t have the right perspective on my life vs. others, is very important for reminding and again believing in all that God has blessed me with. <3

  1. We teach our children to say “thank you” when they are given a gift, no matter how small. Oh, the small things in life — when we get into the custom of saying “thank you” to God for those small things, the big things don’t loom over us, so big, as they did.
